Ted T. Meece, 85, passed into eternal life on Sunday, January 10th. He died peacefully, at home, surrounded by loving family. He was born April 13, 1930, in Level Green, Kentucky to Martha Janie (Hibbard) and Andrew Jackson Meece, who preceded him in death. Ted leaves behind his devoted wife of 63 years, Cartha Jean (Scott) Meece; their daughters, Susan Meece-Hinh, her husband, Xuyen Hinh; their daughters, Cara and Katie; Melanie Curtis and her husband Ron Curtis; their daughters, Amanda Schriber and Marsha Hollis; Marcia Meece-Bagwell and her son Stephen Bagwell, all of Indianapolis, Indiana. Ted is one of ten siblings; he was preceded in death by Hibbard Meece, Lillian Bullock, PH “Pete” Meece and Edna Payne. Surviving siblings; Jess Meece, Lucy Murphy, Catherine Thomson, Julia VanHook, Bonnie Brummett. Ted is also survived by numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews. Family was of utmost importance to Ted and he loved them dearly. He enjoyed engaging conversation and always lending a hand to others. He leaves behind many friends. Ted was a member of Gray Road Baptist Church.Ted married Cartha Jean in August, 1952 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 as a Boatswain mate. He served for four years during the Korean Conflict. Upon honorable discharge in 1955, he and Cartha settled in Beech Grove, Indiana. He worked for Kingan’s and Hygrad Meat Packing companies. He later worked for Commercial Lovelace and Consolidated Freightways as a truck driver. He retired in 1992. Ted loved to “fix” and build things. He was always willing to help neighbors and friends with tasks, as well as spending many hours working on church projects. The family would like to thank Ted’s many health care providers for their compassion from IU Health, Community Hospital and St. Francis Inpatient Rehab and Hospice for their wonderful care. A celebration of life service will be held at Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, 7520 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN, 46227. Visitation will be on Thursday the 14th from 4-8pm at the funeral home, as will the memorial service on Friday the 15th at 12:00pm. Entombment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Veteran’s Garden.
