Violet Lavathian Benefield, age 91, of Greenwood, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Violet was born on February 20, 1929 in Haleyville, AL to Leander Vanderbilt Hyde and Rosabelle (Burdick) Hyde. Violet was a caregiver to Lyman S. Ayers for many years. She worked as a beautician and a home maker in her younger years. Survivors include her four daughters Gloria Daeger (Bob), Billie Dragoo (Charlie), Gina Elliott (Rick) and Elizabeth Allee (Rod); 10 grandchildren, Wendy Mathena, Shawn Harper, Heather Speissegger, Carrie Tidwell (Kerry), Brad Dragoo (Donna), Lindsey Maloy (Stephen), Adam Elliott (Jordan), Ashley May (Mike), Matt Allee (Brittany) and Megan Allee; 17 great grandchildren, Kenneth Harper, Brian Harper, Taylor Harper, Ariel Sapp, Brendan Harper, Jordan Harper, Austin Harper, Chelsea Winn, Madyson Speissegger, Olivia Klein, Carley Dragoo, Dylan Dragoo, Maegan Maloy, Milana Maloy, Max Maloy, Owen Elliott, Makayla May and Parker Allee; four great great grandchildren; Malyk Madison, Amara Madison, Matthias Madison and Austin Harper. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 39 years, William Benefield, four sisters and four brothers. Funeral services for Violet will be private.Singleton and Herr Mortuary, 7602 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227, has been entrusted with arrangements.
