Wayne Leroy Fisher, age 85, passed away in his Fishers, Indiana home on February 6, 2024.
He was born on January 9, 1939, in Indianapolis to Olin Leroy Fisher and Irma Belle (Harris) Fisher. He married Margaret Armeda Cronkrite on June 25, 1966, in Indianapolis. They attended Christ United Methodist Church. Following his wife’s passing in 2014, Wayne moved to Fishers, Indiana to be closer to his children, Jill Walker and Jeff Fisher.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Olin Leroy Fisher and Irma Belle Fisher, his wife, Margaret Armeda Fisher and his son, Jeff Fisher.
Wayne is survived by his loving daughter, Jill Armeda Walker and her husband, Thomas George Walker. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Madison Clara Walker, age 12, and Grayson Yelei Charles Walker, age 11. They lovingly called him “Grandpa Fisher”. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Fisher and his wife, Claudia Fisher.
Wayne graduated from Southport High School and attended a downtown college. He honorably served on active duty in the United States Air Force from January 16, 1961, to June 15, 1965.
He worked on the instruments for the B-58 bomber airplanes and was stationed in Bunker Hill AFB, Peru, Indiana. From 1965 to 1982, he worked for channel 6 as an electrical engineer and
cameraman. He enjoyed meeting famous people who were guests on the “Jim Gerard Show” which was a live talk show on channel 6 in 1966. From 1982 to 1984, Wayne worked for RCA,
which produced the videodisc systems. Following the collapse of the videodisc market in 1984, he worked for the Indiana State Police repairing radar guns. From 1987 until his retirement in
2001, he worked for “Public Service Indiana”, which changed to Duke Energy in 1997. He was an electrical technician providing maintenance to power lines across Indiana.
Following his retirement, Wayne enjoyed frequent trips to Siesta Key, Florida with his wife and daughter and son-n-law. He also enjoyed boating on Lake Monroe and enjoyed listening to
classic country music. He played guitar and greatly enjoyed trips to the Grand Ole Opry. He has a large, treasured collection of antique Christmas lights and decor. In later years, after Margaret
passed, Wayne spent a lot of time with his son, Jeff, before he passed in 2020. He loved spending time with his daughter, Jill, and his son-n-law, Tom and with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his brother, Bobby.
Services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Singleton and St. Pierre Funeral, 7602 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. Public visitation is from 11:00am to 1:00pm with graveside service beginning at 1:30pm at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Noble of Indiana in memory of Wayne’s son, Jeff Fisher.
